The whistleblower, nicknamed «Showstopper» for uncovering defects in Boeing planes, claims the company is making «time bombs.»

Santiago Paredes, who worked for 12 years as a production inspector at supplier Boeing Spirit AeroSystems said it has identified hundreds of problems in finished products.

“I have seen missing parts, incomplete parts, frames with temporary clamps and missing fasteners, dents on parts, damaged parts, cut rivets, problems that may arise but should be corrected before they get to me,” he said New York Post. .

“Everything I saw was like a time bomb… I was also afraid every day to watch the news and see that something had happened to the plane in the air.”

p>Mr Paredes, who exposed the company he left in 2022, claims he was pressured to keep defect reports to a minimum because his bosses «didn't have time to correct mistakes».

< p>Apparently they gave him the nickname «Showstopper» because his articles about production problems were delaying deliveries for Boeing.

Boeing has faced a number of problems with its planes, including crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people.

In January, a door trim flew off on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9, prompting a US government investigation. About 20 former employees have come forward with damaging reports about the airline giant and its suppliers.

Dave Calhoun, Boeing's CEO, and several other senior officials said they would leave the company after the Alaska Airlines incident.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators believe the plane left the Boeing plant without the necessary bolts holding the door in place.

Mr. Calhoun acknowledged that the incident was the result of a «quality escape.»

Teacher Bob Sauer later discovered a 4-foot metal door in a tree in his back garden in Portland, Oregon.

In February, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) gave Boeing 90 days to resolve the issue. “problems of system security and quality control.”

Mike Whitaker, the FAA administrator, said in May that this was just «the beginning» for the airline giant.

“The road back to producing safe airplanes will be long,” he told ABC News.

Roy Irwin, a Boeing quality investigator in South Carolina, said he was «dismissed» almost every day by the serious safety problems he found on the 787 Dreamliner. planes cleared to fly.

Mr. Irvine said he often had to be “insubordinate” because of the number of times he pointed out these problems.

“No safety devices on the equipment or loose equipment means you won't be able to fly the plane if they fail,” he told the newspaper.

“There's a safety device installed there. If the clasp is not fastened correctly, it will fall and you will not be able to control the aircraft.»

Mr. Irwin worked alongside John Barnett, a Boeing whistleblower who was found dead on March 9 and testified in a lawsuit against his former employer. A coroner later ruled that he shot himself.

Joshua Dean, another whistleblower who worked for Spirit AeroSystems, died suddenly in May of pneumonia.

“We continually encourage employees to report concerns because our Our priority is to ensure the safety of our aircraft and passengers and we will take whatever action is necessary. to ensure our aircraft meet regulatory requirements.

“Boeing employees can anonymously report issues through our Speak Up portal or directly to the FAA.”
