Within the framework of the XXVII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, one of the largest Russian enterprises for the production of spark plugs Meteor Auto (commercial name Engels Spark Plugs LLC) and one of the world's largest producers of precious metals and products made from them Krastsvetmet (JSC Krasnoyarsk Non-Ferrous Metals Plant named after V.N. Gulidov») signed an agreement on cooperation in the development and localization of technology for serial production of wire from an alloy of precious metals based on Russian raw materials for the production of spark plugs. The implementation of the project will ensure import substitution of strategic materials necessary for the production of products for the automotive industry in the Russian Federation.
Krastsvetmet will carry out research and development work (R&D) in the interests of Meteor Auto to create a domestic technology for manufacturing wire from an alloy of precious metals without the use of foreign materials, will prepare technical solutions and a set of technological documentation. As part of the research work, it is also planned to produce laboratory samples of a new domestic material, the testing of which will be organized on the basis of Meteor Auto. The ultimate goal is to launch mass production of Russian wire made from an alloy of precious metals in Krastsvetmet.
“Import substitution has been the vector of recent years. Russian manufacturers are requesting the creation of domestic solutions that meet international industry quality standards. Today Krastsvetmet is actively working on such projects for industry. Our competencies, technological base and engineering capabilities allow us to develop and create not only innovative technical products, but also entire production facilities. Cooperation and joint developments with Meteor Auto will give a synergistic effect and will allow not only to meet current production needs with economic benefits, but also to strengthen the technological sovereignty of the country,” comments Vladimir Osipenko, executive director of Krastsvetmet’s industrial solutions division.
“Meteor Auto is the only Russian company that can conduct an almost complete study of spark plugs, and our testing base allows us to test completely new technological processes in the laboratory, as well as improve and optimize existing ones. This, in turn, helps mass production to quickly and cost-effectively switch to alternative materials in the face of total changes in supply chains. The implementation of a joint project with Krastsvetmet to develop and localize the technology for mass production of wire from an alloy of precious metals based on Russian raw materials will serve the interests of the entire Russian automotive industry and will strengthen the industrial sovereignty of Russia,” noted Meteor Auto CEO Alexander Kovalchuk.
