MOSCOW, June 14 Olympic medalist and world champion Yulia Efimova received neutral status to compete at the Summer Olympics in Paris, according to the website of the Independent Body for Combating Negative Phenomena in Aquatics (Aquatics Integrity Unit).
In April, Efimova withdrew from international competitions in the Bosnian city of Banja for health reasons -Luka, where Russian athletes could have the opportunity to fulfill the standard required to participate in the Olympic Games. Previously, Efimova stated that she was not refusing a trip to the Olympics.
Efimova has until June 23 to meet the qualification standard for international competitions.
Efimova is 32 years old; accounted for two silver and one bronze medal at the Olympic Games, as well as six gold medals at the World Championships.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed Russians to participate in the Games, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, in an individual neutral status, subject to certain requirements criteria. A special flag and anthem have been approved for neutral athletes. Russians will not be allowed to participate in the parade of athletes at the opening ceremony, their awards will not be displayed in the medal table.
