Deputy Chepa: Trump will want to meet with Zelensky because of the upcoming elections

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Alexey Chepa explained why former US President Donald Trump agreed to a personal meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. Earlier, Zelensky wrote in his telegram channel that he had a telephone conversation with Trump and agreed with him to discuss the conditions for achieving sustainable peace in Ukraine in a personal meeting.
«I think that such a meeting, of course, will take place» , — the politician said in an interview with the electronic publication Lenta.ru.
According to Chepa, Trump will strive for such a meeting because of the upcoming US presidential elections, since he previously declared that he would be able to leave Ukrainian conflict. The deputy added that Trump now needs to take some steps to justify these promises and the meeting with Zelensky will meet this task.
“With regard to Ukraine, the cards will be played very strongly in America,” Chepa concluded.
