The prototype of the future new product of the Korean brand is still at the road testing stage. The company conducted part of the tests in the Alabama Hills mountain range in California (USA).
Kia registered the Tasman trademark last summer, and last spring confirmed that it would be received by the brand’s pickup truck, which is currently in development. It is known that they decided to name the truck in honor of Tasmania, an island located near Australia. By the way, Kia Tasman will become a global model of the brand: not only residents of the Green Continent will be able to buy it, it will also enter the home market and appear in the countries of Africa and the Middle East.
Sales of the truck will begin in 2025, the official premiere could take place before the end of this year. Let us remind you that earlier the future new product had already been captured by spy photographers, however, then the details of the prototype’s appearance were hidden using dense fabric camouflage with massive additional overlays. And in April, the Korean manufacturer published the first official photos of the truck, hidden only behind an ordinary camouflage film.

The Kia Tasman is currently undergoing summer road tests. The manufacturer films the testing process on video: it was decided to post the videos online at certain intervals as part of the R&D Test Story project. The brand published its first full video today: it shows a camouflaged prototype of a pickup truck testing its capabilities while traveling through the Alabama Hills mountain range in California (USA).

Judging by the photos and videos, the Kia pickup truck will have a “squared” body shape with short overhangs, a long hood, and a large radiator grille with vertical, widely spaced slats. The model will probably receive unusual head optics, because visually the headlights are part of massive linings on the extended wheel arches.

The truck was equipped with roof rails, traditional outside mirrors and regular door handles. The stern will likely receive vertical lights located along the side, with footrests integrated into the lower part. It is expected that the production Kia Tasman will have impressive ground clearance (the manufacturer will declassify the figure later).
The Kia Tasman prototype tested has a double-row cab, while this pickup truck will most likely have so-called “workhorses” with a single cab. In addition, it is expected that in Australia the car will be available in a chassis modification with the ability to install various add-ons.

There is no official information about the “filling” of the future model yet. According to preliminary data, the Kia Tasman will have a frame structure. It is possible that the pickup will be equipped with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel, which is available in the engine line of other Hyundai-Kia models. It will probably be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In addition, it was previously reported that this pickup truck may have a “charged” GT version with a V6 engine.
