MOSCOW, August 7, Andrey Mikhailov. The leadership of the Russian Football Union (RFU) has agreed with the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to hold two away matches of the national team in September, said the organization's Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov.
«There is an agreement with a number of teams to hold matches of the national team in September. These matches have been agreed with FIFA and UEFA. Nevertheless, until the final signing of agreements with colleagues, I would prefer not to disclose any additional details. These will be away matches,» Mitrofanov said.
Earlier, Sport-Express reported that the Russian national team would play in Vietnam against the national team of that country and the national team of Thailand during the upcoming international break. The exact dates of the games were not announced.
In February 2022, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international competitions for an indefinite period due to the events in Ukraine. In the fall of 2023, the organizations clarified that the sanctions would not be lifted until the end of the SVO.
In total, since the sanctions began, the Russian national team has played 13 friendly matches (six wins, six draws, one defeat). In their last meeting, Valery Karpin's team defeated the Belarusian national team with a score of 4:0 in June in Minsk.
