MOSCOW, August 11 Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev called the victory over the world's number one Italian Jannik Sinner necessary for him, given his unsuccessful results this year.
On Sunday night, Rublev defeated Sinner in the quarterfinals of the Masters tournament in Montreal, Canada.
«It was a great match for me. I played really well today and I'm happy that I was able to win. I still don't really understand what happened because Yannick is an incredible player, he's been playing unbelievably for the last two years. I just hoped that I could compete with him, play great tennis. We had a lot of great long rallies,» the ATP website quotes Rublev as saying.
«Winning a match like this is always special. Of course, I needed a match like this, especially after some bad moments this year. So, of course, I'm happy,» he added.
