It is assumed that the flagship of the “green” family of the German brand will appear in 2028. Another addition will be the entry-level SUV, which may be named ID.2X.
Volkswagen continues to develop its own electric ID family. The compact five-door ID.3 hatchback, which debuted in September 2019, was the first-born, and other novelties were added later: the ID.4 crossover, its ID.5 coupe version, and the ID electric van. Buzz, and most recently the ID.7 liftback premiered. In the future, the «green» line will become wider, one of the most long-awaited new products promises to be the so-called «all-electric Volkswagen Tiguan».

It was previously assumed that such a crossover would debut in 2026, but now the British Autocar, citing VW CEO Thomas Schaefer, reports that, according to the plan, the production of new items should begin as early as 2025. It is known that the production will be adjusted at the same German plant, from the assembly line of which the recently updated ID.3 hatchback is now descending. The company will invest 460 million euros in the re-equipment of the site, the work will be completed towards the end of 2025.
The «electric Tiguan» is expected to have a different design from the current Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5. By the way, these SUVs will receive a modernized “stuffing” at the end of this year, and at the beginning of 2024 — a refreshed appearance and an updated interior. As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, the “green” VW crossover will have an exterior design closer to current models with internal combustion engines.
It is possible that the new product will be called ID.Tiguan (similar to ID.Golf), although the official there was no confirmation from the company. Previously, it was assumed that such a Tiguan could replace the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5, but Thomas Schaefer denied this information, noting that in the future all three models will exist simultaneously.

The all-electric VW Tiguan will be based on the MEB + platform (an upgraded version of the MEB “trolley”): the list of differences includes more energy-efficient standardized battery cells, with their help it was possible to increase the range on a single charge up to 700 km (according to the WLTP cycle), as well as an increased maximum charging power — from the current 135 to 175-200 kW. It is expected that the «green» Tiguan will be versions with rear and all-wheel drive, as well as options with five and seven seats. .jpg» />
Another novelty will be an entry-level electric crossover. It is assumed that it will be called Volkswagen ID.2X and will be created on the basis of the ID.2 compact hatchback (it will be based on the ID.2all concept, presented in mid-March of this year). A small SUV, probably only with front-wheel drive, will become a “green” alternative to the Volkswagen T-Cross (other names are Tacqua, Taigun). Its range on a single charge is expected to range from 290 to 418 km. According to the plan, the release of such an SUV will start in 2026; most likely at a site near Barcelona, Spain.

The third new crossover of Volkswagen's electric family is likely to be a large flagship based on the developments of the Volkswagen Trinity project. It is assumed that it will be based on the SSP (Scalable Systems Platform), it will probably have versions with a single electric motor on the rear axle, as well as with a twin-engine power plant (one on each axle). According to preliminary data, its maximum power reserve can be 700 km. The release of this «electrocrossover» is scheduled for 2028, there is no information about the appearance of the future novelty yet.
