A little over a month ago, the premiere of the next generation Hyundai Verna budget sedan, which is an analogue of the popular Solaris in Russia, took place. In the history of the model, in addition to the sedan, there was also a hatchback option, and we decided to imagine how such a car could look like in a new generation.
The Solaris model was first shown in September 2010, becoming the production version of the Hyundai RB Concept prototype, which was shown a couple of months earlier. The car is a version of the Accent/Verna model adapted for Russian conditions, it also replaced the Getz and i20 models from the model range presented in Russia, the sales of which were completed during 2010. In January 2011, the first sedan rolled off the assembly line, and in May, a five-door hatchback was also added to it. Six years later, the production of the second generation Solaris began, which was presented only as a sedan. So far, there are no hints of a variety of body options for the new generation of the car, which premiered in March this year. However, the related Kia Rio has a hatchback body, and in the new generation, judging by the spy photos, it will not be abandoned. Why not make such a car under the Hyundai brand?

The hatchback presented in the renders is completely identical to the sedan up to the B-pillar. At the same time, he received a shorter rear overhang, a higher roof level in the rear, a wiper on the rear window and a spoiler in its upper part. The new body has a number of advantages compared to the sedan. Firstly, it has smaller dimensions due to the short rear overhang, which makes it easier to maneuver and park in the city. Secondly, the hatchback can be called a significantly more versatile option due to the full-fledged rear door. Finally, the presence of a rear wiper will play a role in improving visibility.

The new Hyundai Verna is focused primarily on the Indian market. In the same place, the production of a sedan in the city of Chennai has been established. The novelty will be offered only with gasoline engines, the base of which will be an atmospheric 1.5 MPI with a capacity of 115 hp. (144 Nm). A more powerful version is equipped with a 160-horsepower «turbo» 1.5 T-GDI (253 Nm). Both engines in the base are equipped with a 6-speed “mechanics”, for an extra charge, an atmospheric engine can be paired with a CVT, and a turbocharged engine can be paired with a 7-speed “robot” with two clutches.
