Sale Sharks will offer Luke Cowen-Dickey a return to the Premier League if his deal with Montpellier falls through, rugby director Alex Sanderson has revealed.
Reports in France suggest that Montpellier will refuse to sign the contract. An English prostitute from the Exeter Chiefs after a medical examination showing that Cowan-Dickey's strength is suffering due to nerve problems.
Cowan-Dickey was also pulled over by police for «public drunkenness». and was kept in a cell to sober up during a recent visit to France. The incident did not help his case with the Top 14 club and Midi Olympique indicated that Tolu Latu, an Australian prostitute, could be a possible replacement.
The sale was previously linked to Latu, but Sanderson was informed that his target «was signed for twice the amount of money we offered him» by an unnamed team. Chasing Latu is not tradable due to salary cap restrictions.
However, Sanderson would be interested in a deal with Cowan-Dickie. Johnny Hill and Tom O'Flaherty have settled in after moving into his club from Exeter last summer, and with Ewen Ashman joining Edinburgh at the end of the current campaign, there's room for another prostitute in the sale.
< p>“ Why not? He's a great player,» Sanderson said of chasing Cowen-Dickey ahead of Sunday's Premier League semi-final against Leicester Tigers.
«I don't know where we're priced but he's got it here too buddies. He fits into our game model as Ewan Ashman, Acker van der Merwe, doesn't he?
“He’s cool, so he ticks off that front. I haven't talked to Luke, so there's no progress in terms of materialization.
«This is something we'll have to work out with the selection syndicate we have,» Sanderson added. “Ethan Kane came out at the weekend [against the Newcastle Falcons] and did very, very well for a young lad. He hit and the set piece was right, so we don't want to block his path.»
Richard Cockerill, who stepped down as England manager after the Six Nations, is due to join Montpellier in pre-season. Although he is considered to have given Cowan-Dickey a positive review, French medical professionals are known to be more strict about the issue of neck injuries, even if the off-pitch consequences of Cowan-Dickey's misbehavior are not taken into account.
Rob Baxter hinted that Exeter will «at the very least» aim to «take care» of Cowan-Dickey as he fights to get back into full form and secure a place in the England squad for the World Cup.
Sanderson confirmed that Manu Tuilagi will be ready to face Leicester this weekend after the centre-forward ripped the net on his arm and left the field during Saturday's 54-12 win over Newcastle. Dan du Pré, who was eliminated from the squad before kick-off, is also available for selection.
Sale, who qualified for the play-offs in 2021 but lost to Exeter in the semi-finals, are aiming for their first home decider player since they became Premier League champions in 2006.
