The Japanese premium brand's new three-row SUV will be related to the recently debuted Toyota Grand Highlander crossover. The main market for both models will be the States.

A few years ago, the American division of Toyota registered the names Grand Highlander and Lexus TX, which, as it was then reported, would be assigned to large related crossovers. The assumptions turned out to be correct. So, the commodity Grand was revealed at the beginning of this year: this, we recall, is not at all an elongated “just” Highlander, but a separate model with an original body and appearance (but the GA-K platform is common for cars). Well, now it's the turn of the premium analogue of the Toyota Grand Highlander: the first teaser of the Lexus TX has been published.

Of course, the Lexus model has its own design. In particular, the TX has different taillights and a floating roof. “Lichiko”, on the other hand, may have been designed in the style of other new Lexuses — the RX SUV and the LM minivan, that is, we are waiting for a trapezoidal grille with a mosaic pattern instead of the usual pronounced “spindle”. Dimensions have not yet been announced. The length of the related Toyota Grand Highlander is 5116 mm, the wheelbase is 2946 mm. For comparison, the figures of the retired Lexus RX L are 5000 and 2790 mm, respectively.

Most likely, like the Toyota Grand, the Lexus TX will be available with seven or eight seats. In the first case, separate chairs will be installed in the middle, in the second — a triple sofa.

The brand has not yet spoken about the technology. Among the registered trademarks were the designations TX350, TX500h and TX550h +, that is, along with the “traditional” crossover, they will offer a “simple” and rechargeable hybrids. The base platform Toyota Grand Highlander has a 2.4 petrol turbo engine (269 hp) and an eight-speed automatic; then comes a hybrid with a «aspirated» 2.5, an electric motor and an electromechanical variator (total output — 246 hp); well, at the top of the range — Hybrid Max with a 2.4 turbo engine, an electric motor and a six-speed «automatic» (total power — 367 hp). The first two versions come with front or all-wheel drive (the hybrid has an additional electric motor on the rear axle), the Grand Highlander Hybrid Max is all-wheel drive by default.

The new Lexus TX will make its premiere soon. It is expected to be made at the same plant in Indiana that makes the Grand Highlander (the Grand hasn't gone on sale yet). One of the main competitors of the Toyota crossover is the Honda Pilot, but the Lexus TX will try to lure customers away from the BMW X7.
