Elon Musk was accused of inciting anti-Semitism after he compared George Soros to the Jewish supervillain Magneto and said that the billionaire philanthropist «hates humanity.»

The comments overshadowed Tesla's annual investor day, at which Musk promised to launch new products and bet that the company's future success would be fueled by sales of humanoid robots dubbed Tesla Optimus.

Magneto is the nemesis of the X-Men in Marvel comics who wants to conquer the world and believes that superpowered mutants should replace humans as a master race.

The comments sparked a wave of criticism: The Israeli Foreign Ministry and the Jewish NGO Anti-Defamation League (ADL) accused Musk of fomenting anti-Semitism.
ADL chief executive Jonathan Greenblatt said: «The far right often refers to Soros as the source of the world's problems using anti-Semitic clichés.»David Saranga, head of digital at the Israeli Foreign Ministry, said: Jews are trending #Twitter now , and is filled with anti-Semitic plots and hate speech against Jews around the world. Unfortunately, Twitter is doing nothing to address this issue.»
He continued: “Seeing Elon Musk, regardless of his intentions, fuel this segment – likening him to a Jewish supervillain, claiming that Soros “hates humanity” – is not just upsetting, it’s dangerous: it will embolden extremists who are already coming up with anti-Jewish conspiracies and are trying to attack Soros and Jewish communities as a result.»
Yair Rosenberg, a Jewish-American journalist for The Atlantic, called Mr. Soros and Magneto «literally ideological opposites.»
