The next generation Japanese SUV may debut in 2025. It is expected to be sold at the same time as the CX-50, which was introduced in November 2021.
Mazda has been producing the CX-5 crossover since 2012, the current second generation was introduced in 2016, and in 2021 this Japanese brand SUV underwent a planned restyling. And if in 2020 there were rumors about the successor to the model, then in February 2023 the rhetoric changed: the media started talking about the fact that the development of the next generation CX-5 is in question. However, now the company notes that there will still be a new crossover.

It is reported by Drive with reference to representatives of Mazda, while the publication noted that the exact date of the debut of the next generation CX-5 has not yet been determined. It is expected that the model will be presented in 2025. It is noted that the new crossover, most likely, like the current one, will be equipped with a four-cylinder engine, with the basic versions waiting for front-wheel drive, and optionally offer an all-wheel drive system.
Even in the publication, it was suggested that the Mazda CX-5 that replaced the generation could be offered with a hybrid power plant, which Toyota will share with the new product (as part of a partnership). In this case, the model can get the system from Corolla Cross. Recall that in Europe it is based on a four-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline “aspirated” of the Dynamic Force family, which works in tandem with an electric motor and an electromechanical variator; the total return is 197 hp. In addition, there is an all-wheel drive version with a separate 41-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle. We also note that in the homeland of the brand, the Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid installation includes a 1.8-liter “aspirated” with a total output of 122 hp. There is also an option with all-wheel drive, however, it has an electric motor installed on the rear axle, producing only 7.2 hp. (mostly it helps to move off).

Earlier it became known about the plans of Mazda: the company intends to release three electric vehicles, five plug-in hybrids and five «regular» hybrids by 2025. But the manufacturer has not yet declassified which models will offer versions of these “fillings”. Previously, there were rumors about several hybrids based on a rotary engine: Mazda hinted that a hybrid version of the CX-30 with a rotary engine would appear in the US, in addition, the company filed for patents for a sports car with such technology.
The new generation Mazda CX-5 is expected to be sold alongside the CX-50 crossover. This model debuted in November 2021. Initially, it was intended for the North American market, but later appeared in Latin America, as well as in China (in China, Mazda and Changan are responsible for the release).
Before Mazda left the Russian Federation, the CX-5 crossover was on the list of the most sought-after cars in the country. So, according to AEB estimates, in 2021, Russian dealers sold 19,828 copies (1% less than in 2020). The production of this SUV was launched at the facilities of the Mazda Sollers joint venture in Vladivostok.
