Sir Keir Starmer's spokesman said: 'I think kids should be told to think they are kids' Photo: Labor Party
Sir Keir Starmer has made it clear that children who present themselves as cats «should be told to identify themselves as children» as he joins the growing self-identification controversy.
The Labor leader says it is 'obviously ridiculous' for teachers to treat students as anything but children after The Telegraph reported cases of students identifying themselves at school as horses, dinosaurs and other animals.
< p>It came about as one of Britain's leading school principals warned that in many classrooms «adult authority has long since been lost» as in some schools several children identify themselves as cats.
Catherine Birbalsingh drew attention to a school where » cat” the child is even allowed to lie in the classroom. She responded to critics who accused her of lying when she previously mentioned it.
«Now everyone can see that I was telling the truth,» she said.
Candid comments
Sir Keir's comments are the most outspoken by any party leader on the issue since The Telegraph reported that two children were reprimanded by a teacher for questioning a classmate's feline personality.
His spokesman said : «It is clearly ridiculous if you are in a situation where children are not recognized as children. I think it is quite obvious what the correct approach should be in this case.»
When asked if Sir Keir thinks that a child can identify with a cat, the spokesperson said, «I think children should be told to identify as children.»
Asked if the teacher was violating the rules, the spokesman replied, «Yes.»
Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has ordered an investigation into what happened at Rye College in New York State. East Sussex, where a teacher told students they had to accept their classmate's decision to identify as a cat.
The Telegraph also reported that children identify with horses, dinosaurs and even the moon in British classrooms.
Ms Beerbalsingh, sometimes described as Britain's strictest head and who until January was chair of the Social Mobility Commission, said she knew «teachers who work and have worked in schools where there is more than one cat». .
She added: “I don't think that's happening. I know.»
The founder of Mikaela Community School in Wembley Park, London, tweeted a message from a teacher who said that their school has a 'cat' that is allowed to lie in class that, according to the teacher, was «complete madness.»
The teacher in question said that the other kids in the class «can't handle being allowed to watch it endured» and complained that «we had a new set of gender rules that define nothing, to put it ironically.» don't harm the approach'. It harms the entire community if people are afraid to ask questions about obvious unmet needs.»
The teacher ended the text message by saying, «How do you find the strength to speak up?»
I do not know this person.
But I know teachers who work and have worked in schools where there is more than one cat.
I don't think this is happening.

Ms. Birbalsingh tweeted that reports confirmed warnings she made in a speech last month that children identify as cats and that teachers don't do with it because kids are now in charge in schools.
She posted a link to a speech she gave at the National Conference on Conservatism, in which she said that the culture of «me, me, me» has allowed schools to take root.
A few weeks ago, I gave this talk at the @NatConTalk conference.
I was talking about children identifying themselves as cats. I have been told many times on Twitter that I am lying.
Now everyone can see that what I said was the truth. https://t.co/WoHKvrXBXT

She said in her speech: «For decades we were frogs in hot water, and now we are at the boiling point.»
«What am I, me, me culture? Did you know that some kids identify as furries…right now in some schools there are kids with tails and ears pinned to their head and butt. This is not a fancy dress, they identify as cats.
“Kids are not allowed to wear sneakers to school, but they are allowed to wear ears and tails because that is their chosen identity. This is how they feel they belong.
“The culture of our country is created not only in our schools, but our children also lead the development of this culture in our schools.
“ The authority of adults is long gone, so I'm raising the alarm.»
Social media users reacted to Ms Birbalsingh by sharing other examples of children identifying as animals, including a girl who identifies as a wolf and a «whole group of furries» at another school .
