YAROSLAVL, November 17 Former deputy of the Yaroslavl municipality Dmitry Sokolov, accused of setting fire to a restaurant in the city center, brought public apologized to the victim and paid her half a million rubles, the press service of the Yaroslavl Regional Court reports.
It is reported that on Friday the court considered Sokolov’s complaint against arrest, but left the decision of the previous court unchanged. The ex-deputy will remain in custody until December 30. At the request of the prosecutor, the case was considered in a closed court session.
“»Before the removal of the media from the courtroom, the accused Sokolov D. made a public apology to the victim. After the end of the court hearing, Sokolov D.'s defense lawyer, lawyer A. Tolyanin, said that the accused sent the victim 500 thousand rubles in partial compensation for moral damage,» — reports the press service of the court.
Late in the evening of October 30, the summer veranda of the Square restaurant in the center of Yaroslavl caught fire. The only victim, a visitor born in 1986, was hospitalized with burns to her back, thighs, and hands. Dmitry Sokolov, a former deputy of the Yaroslavl municipality, a United Russia member expelled from the party in 2022 for a “drunk” accident, was accused of arson; he is also charged with attempted murder of two or more persons, committed in a generally dangerous manner.
The SUSC reported that the ex-deputy threw two Molotov cocktails into the restaurant. Sokolov's lawyer Alexander Tolyanin told reporters that his client admits guilt in arson, but denies the intention to kill someone. He also noted that at the time of the crime Sokolov was very drunk.
