MOSCOW, November 22 The Supreme Court of the DPR sentenced to life imprisonment an Azov militant* involved in the execution of five civilians in Mariupol , reported the DPR prosecutor's office.
“The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic passed a verdict in a criminal case against 23-year-old assistant machine gunner of the separate special forces unit “Azov”* of the National Guard of Ukraine Artur Niverchuk… The court sentenced Niverchuk to life imprisonment to be served in a special regime correctional colony,” — reported the prosecutor's office.
The court found that in March 2022, Niverchuk, together with other servicemen, discovered a car with white people standing on Mira Avenue in Mariupol tapes on the mirrors, inside which were a man, a woman and a boy.
“Having received an order from the command to liquidate civilians, he, together with his colleagues, fired at least 60 shots from a machine gun at the car. As a result of the shelling, a man, woman and child died at the scene of the crime,” the prosecutor’s office said.
In April 2022, while at an observation position on Zelinsky Street in Mariupol, Niverchuk discovered two civilians on the sixth floor of the house.
«Having received an order from the commander to kill the civilian population, he fired at least 10 aimed shots from an under-barrel grenade launcher into the apartment where the victims were located. From the wounds received the men died on the spot,” the prosecutor’s office said.
He was found guilty under paragraph. “a”, “c”, “g”, “l” part 2 art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of two or more persons, a minor, committed by an organized group, motivated by political and ideological hatred), Part 1 of Art. 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cruel treatment of civilians in occupied territory).
