The new four-door debuted as a rechargeable hybrid, and later a full-fledged electric car will go on sale.
Chinese media sedan the Wuling brand, which is part of a joint venture between General Motors and SAIC, was shown back in October. The public premiere of the new product took place at the Guangzhou Motor Show taking place these days, where preliminary prices were announced and orders were opened. The model is called Starlight (local name is Xingguang), and this is the first four-door in the brand’s range: previously only vans, crossovers, hatchbacks and microcars were produced under it.

Wuling Starlight is a classmate of the Toyota Camry: the length of the “Chinese” is 4835 mm, width – 1860 mm, height – 1515 mm, wheelbase – 2800 mm. The sedan has a coupe-like silhouette and unusual optics. Aerodynamic drag coefficient Cd – 0.228. Models are equipped with 17- or 18-inch wheels. The new Wuling debuted in the form of a rechargeable hybrid, its own features are a frameless radiator grille in body color and a diode strip across the entire width of the front part. Next year, the electric Wuling Starlight will hit the market; this sedan has “boomerang” running lights and a plug instead of a grille.

Inside, the hybrid and electric modifications repeat each other, there are separate screens for the instrument panel and multimedia system, a two-spoke steering wheel and a two-story central tunnel. The backs of the front seats recline 180 degrees (the headrests are removable). The trunk volume is 540 liters.
The hybrid installation included a 1.5 naturally aspirated gasoline engine (106 hp) and a 177-horsepower electric motor. Now there are two configurations to choose from, and they have different batteries. The basic version has a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 9.5 kWh; on electric power alone, this Wuling Starlight will travel 50 km on the WLTC cycle. The more expensive option has a battery of 20.5 kWh, and a range of 105 km. But the maximum speed is the same for both versions — 145 km/h.

The list of equipment for the cheapest sedan includes: leather upholstery, front and side airbags, a 7-inch instrument screen and a 10.1-inch diagonal multimedia tablet, climate control, a rear view camera and cruise control. The second version has screens with a diagonal of 8.8 and 15.6 inches, plus all-round cameras.

Wuling Starlight with a basic battery was estimated at 93,800 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 1,156,000 rubles current rate. The longer-range option costs 109,800 yuan (about 1,353,000 rubles). Since the prices are preliminary, then after the start of “live” sales the model may turn out to be slightly cheaper. For comparison, the previous generation Toyota Camry in China today will cost at least 179,800 yuan (about 2,216,000 rubles; the new Camry in China will start next year), and even the junior Toyota Corolla sedan of the current model year is more expensive than the new Wuling — from 116,800 yuan (1,439,000 rubles).
The Wuling brand is not officially represented in Russia, on our You shouldn’t expect its legal appearance on the market – GM is unlikely to allow it. However, subsequently one of the Russian dealers may well organize “parallel” deliveries of a sedan with an unusual appearance.
