MOSCOW, Nov 24 Russian captain of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin said that he and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby saved the National Hockey League (NHL).
“»We saved the league. Now newcomers come, and we are not the same. But we saved it. These new guys have to come and prove that I'm wrong, that we are not the best thing that happened to the league,» he quotes the words Ovechkin The Athletic.
Ovechkin is 38 years old and was selected first overall by Washington in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. In the NHL, he was awarded the title of best rookie, became the top scorer of the regular season, was the top sniper nine times, and was recognized as the most valuable player of the season three times (Hart Trophy). In 2018, he won the Stanley Cup with the Capitals. He ranks second on the list of the best snipers in NHL history (827 goals). The record belongs to Wayne Gretzky (894 goals).
Crosby is 36 years old and was selected first overall by Pittsburgh in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He is an Olympic champion (2010, 2014), world champion (2015), three-time Stanley Cup winner (2009, 2016, 2017).
