Large Geely crossover with Volvo engine updated without price increase

The three-row SUV got a new, even larger tablet. In addition, the engine was modernized.

This Geely crossover has been in service since 2020: in China the model is called HaoYue, the export version is called Okavango. The SUV underwent its first modernization in 2021, and at the end of last year the SUV was subjected to a full-scale restyling in its homeland, after which it was given a prefix in the form of the letter L, because the pre-reform version is still in service in China. And now the Geely HaoYue L has been brought to the new 2024 model year.

This time the reforms did not affect the appearance. The design features of the Elka are an impressive radiator grille with vertical wedges, aggressive bumpers, diode “touches” of running lights integrated into the headlights and rear lights designed as a single die. HaoYue L is the largest SUV in the Geely brand range, its length is 4860 mm. However, in terms of wheelbase size, the model is still inferior to the Geely Monjaro crossover: 2825 versus 2845 mm.

The main new thing is inside. The SUV received a multimedia system tablet with a diagonal of 14.6 inches (previously it was 12.3 inches), it already comes “in the base”. The multimedia itself has also been updated, it has become faster. In addition, the interior features a new Danxia Red color scheme: the seats and door cards are upholstered in reddish “leather,” and the front panel has dark gray inserts. This colorway replaces the Desert Brown option (beige “skin”), while you can still choose a greenish finish. The Geely HaoYue L crossover is seven-seater by default.

As before, the model is offered in three trim levels. The cheapest equipment list includes matrix headlights, 19-inch wheels, virtual instrumentation, dual-zone climate control, front and side airbags, a rear view camera, and cruise control. The “middle” version gets a panoramic sunroof, curtain airbags and all-round cameras. The top version also includes heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise, lane keeping systems and blind spot monitoring.

Last year, the Geely HaoYue L acquired a 2.0 Drive-E petrol turbo-four from Volvo. On the refreshed cross-country, the engine still produces 218 hp. and 325 Nm, but at the same time it is now “powered” by 92-octane gasoline, while the SUV engine of the previous model year is supplied with 95-octane gasoline. The engine is still combined with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches, front-wheel drive only.

Prices have not changed: for the Geely HaoYue L-2024 they are asking 127,900 — 147,900 yuan, which is equivalent to about 1 585,000 – 1,833,000 rubles at the current exchange rate. And the first buyers will even be given a discount of 6,000 yuan (74,000 rubles).

In Russia, the large Gili crossover is legal today not represented, but some dealers brought “parallel” cars to us. Meanwhile, according to unofficial data, the local representative office of the company still plans to bring this SUV to our market.
