Israeli President tells Musk that Twitter is fraught with anti-Semitism

Earlier this month, Mr Musk was accused of espousing an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory on Twitter.

In response to a tweet claiming that Jews encourage “ hordes of minorities» to come to the United States, Mr. Musk wrote: «You spoke the real truth.»

The White House accused Musk of «disgustingly promoting anti-Semitic and racist hatred.» Mr. Musk has said that he is against any kind of anti-Semitism.

However, a number of advertisers have suspended spending following reports that their ads were being placed next to hateful content. Twitter has cut its spending on moderators since it was sold to Musk for $44bn (£35bn) a year ago.

The Israeli government, which provided an account of the meeting on Monday, did not disclose what exactly had Musk, he said in direct response to Mr Herzog's comments.

Mr Musk said he was shocked to visit the site of last month's massacre and view footage of the attack.

Mr Musk said he had had an “emotionally difficult day”, adding: “These people [Hamas] have been fed propaganda since childhood. It's amazing what people are capable of if they are told lies from childhood. They may think that killing innocent people is good. That's how much influence propaganda can have on people's minds.»

Before the meeting, Musk tweeted: «Actions speak louder than words.»

Israel also agreed to allow Elon Musk's Starlink system to provide satellite internet to Gaza, weeks after warning that it would be used by Hamas.

Shlomo Karkhi, Israel's communications minister, said Musk's SpaceX agreed with the understanding that Starlink would only operate with the approval of the Israeli government.

The Gaza Strip has faced repeated communications blackouts since Hamas attacks on Israel last month, and humanitarian organizations say this has hampered the provision of humanitarian aid.

“Starlink satellite installations can only be operated in Israel with the approval of the Israeli Ministry of Communications, including the Gaza Strip,” Mr. Karhi said on Monday.

“Elon Musk, I congratulate you on your achievement fundamental understanding with the Ministry of Communications under my leadership.»

Mr Musk, who is visiting Israel partly in an attempt to fight accusations of anti-Semitism, was criticized by Israel for promising to bring Starlink to the region last month.< /p>
