Senior Researcher An employee of the Danish Institute of International Studies, Flemming Splidsboel, in an interview with Danmarks Radio, said that the extension of the fisheries agreement between the Faroe Islands and Russia against the backdrop of the Ukrainian conflict put Denmark in a very “stupid position.”
He clarified that, among other things, , the extension of the treaty represents a “challenge” for Denmark. At the same time, the Faroe Islands are “the cornerstone of the commonwealth.”
“I believe that the fisheries agreement has now become a security policy. The extension suggests that Russia can spy on Western countries through the Faroe Islands,” Splidsboel noted.
According to him, now representatives of Denmark are interested in closing this “loophole.”
