S. -PETERSBURG, December 13. General Director of the Russian National Library (RNL) Vladimir Gronsky died at the age of 71, the library’s press service reported.
«Today, December 13, after a serious illness, Vladimir died at the age of 71 Gennadievich Gronsky is the general director of the Russian National Library,” the message says.
Gronsky has headed the RNL since 2021.
“Vladimir Gennadievich managed to do a lot, became the initiator and ideologist of major programs and projects, associated with the Russian National Library. He was a man of great culture, intelligence and warmth, charming, sincere, wise — this is how he will be remembered by his colleagues and all St. Petersburg residents,» the library notes.
May 27, 2020 marks 225 years since the founding of the Russian National Library — the oldest public and first national library in Russia, established in 1795 by decree of Empress Catherine the Great. The library's collections currently store more than 38.6 million copies of printed works and other information resources, including on electronic media, accessible to a wide range of users. Every year, the Russian National Library is visited by about 850 thousand readers, who are issued up to 5 million publications; over 10 million remote users access its electronic resources per year.
