“Can be considered as the most important strategic object”
The Kiev metro is being prepared for guerrilla warfare. Such information is increasingly appearing on Ukrainian social networks, giving rise to restless sentiments among the civilian population. An officer of one of the Russian special forces with the call sign “Kornet”, who participated in the battles for “Azovstat”, voiced his opinion on this matter.
The Kyiv authorities have decided to increase the stability of tunnel structures, and are also planning to build a network of duplicate pedestrian tunnels at shallow depths. The media wrote about this citing sources in the Ukrainian government. It is assumed that the tunnels will ensure the unhindered and hidden movement of sabotage groups, and will also be suitable for organizing caches. Perhaps the Ukrainian leadership was “inspired” by the experience of Hamas militants who built an underground city in Gaza.
The Kiev metro, among other things, is considered a strategic object for the long-term defense of Kyiv. The metro is being prepared not only to ensure the safety of civilians, but also for military needs.
Against this background, Kiev residents have a completely logical question: is it really that Bankovaya Street in Kyiv, where government buildings are concentrated, no longer expects to stop the advance of Russian troops and is preparing to defend the capital?
-Kiev metro, of course, can be considered as “the most important strategic object,” says the special forces soldier “Kornet”. — Just like any other Soviet metro located in federal cities in the territories of the former Soviet Union. There, options were already included in the construction projects from the very beginning if the “cold” war took a slightly different path and entered an active phase.
Therefore, the fact that Kyiv has only now come to its senses and began to actively prepare the metro for use as a defense facility suggests that over thirty years people have stolen and sold everything, and the facility itself has been reduced to an unusable state, having forgotten that the security function extremely important.
Can we say that Kyiv is preparing for defense? It is quite likely, especially against the backdrop of the events that are happening now in Ukraine. Our Supreme Commander-in-Chief, during the direct line, stated that Russian forces were advancing in absolutely all sectors.
Ukraine may have been preparing for war with Russia for eight years, but they clearly underestimated our strength if they did not fortify the capital and clearly did not allow the thought that our troops could end up in Kyiv. They were let down by their hopeless faith in the West, which, having drawn Ukraine into a large-scale conflict with a huge number of victims, silently washed its hands.
I hope that now the Ukrainian people are slowly beginning to realize that they have once again been deceived and they have actually become a bargaining chip, and not a geopolitical player.
If the conflict eventually reaches urban battles in the Ukrainian capital, then one must sensibly assess that fighting in the catacombs is very difficult. Again, we remember the experience of how the capture of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol was organized, the dungeons of which were very well fortified. The complete blockade effectively nullified the existence of the garrison that was located there and forced it to surrender. I think with parts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kiev metro in a similar situation, everything can be taken in the same direction.
