Six-year-old boy flies unaccompanied hundreds of miles from his family after being put on the wrong plane

A 6-year-old boy found himself hundreds of miles from his family after Spirit Airlines put him on the wrong flight.

Casper was scheduled to fly from Philadelphia to visit his grandmother Maria Ramos in Ft. -Myers in the south of the country. West Florida, Thursday, December 21.

But in what sounds like a «Home Alone» twist, the child ended up alone in Orlando, a four-hour drive away, and his bag went to Fort Myers.

«They told me, 'No.' , he is not on this flight. He missed his flight,” Ms. Ramos said.

“I said, ‘No, he couldn’t miss his flight because I have a check-in pass,’” she told WINK News.

“I ran onto the plane to the flight attendant and asked her: “Where is my grandson?” It was given to you in Philadelphia.» She said: “No, there were no children with me.”

Ms. Ramos discovered that her grandson, who was flying alone for the first time, was in Orlando when he called her to say he had landed.

Although Spirit Airlines has offered to reimburse Ms. Ramos for the cost of the gasoline she had to pick him up, she said she wants an explanation of what happened.

“I want them to call me. Tell me how my grandson ended up in Orlando,” she said.

“How did this happen? Was he pulled from the plane? The flight attendant, after his mother gave him the documents, let him go alone? Did he jump on the wrong plane himself?»
Spirit Airlines said in a statement that the unaccompanied child was «wrongly boarded» on the flight to Orlando.

The company said he was «always under pressure.» care and supervision of a member of the Spirit team, and as soon as we discovered the error, we immediately took steps to contact the family and reunite them.»

«We take the safety and responsibility of transporting all our guests seriously and conduct an internal investigation. We apologize to the family for this experience.»
