The premiere of Sergei Debizhev's film «City of Gold» will take place in Moscow

MOSCOW, January 24 A retrospective of Sergei Debizhev’s films will be held from January 24 to On February 4 in Moscow, it will end with the premiere of the film “Golden City,” which tells about “the great musical hoax of the 20th century,” the director said.
“On the twenty-fourth of January at the Oktyabr cinema center a week of our films starts: from the avant-garde “Two Captains 2” to the deeply spiritual “Holy Archipelago”. The Russian premiere of the film “Golden City” will also take place there (February 4). The film reveals the secret of the great musical hoax 20th century. It’s about how one composer sacrificed his name and fame so that beautiful music could find its way to listeners,” said Debizhev.
According to him, the film is about the atmosphere that reigned in the USSR during the Thaw.

“In the early 70s, a gramophone record appeared called “Lute Music of the XV-XVII Centuries”. It was truly a stunning success and was in almost every Soviet family. The first number on it was the work “Canzona” by composer Francesco da Milano ( 1497-1543). To the melody of «Canzone» the poet Henri Volokhonsky composed the poem «Above the Blue Sky», using biblical images from the Old Testament Book of the Prophet Ezekiel. Thus the song «Under the Blue Sky» was born, which became the most famous ballad in the Russian language, and the aria » Ave Maria» is still a worldwide opera hit. And suddenly, twenty years after the release of the record, it turned out that the Italian composers declared on the cover did not have such works, and their author was the hero of the film «City of Gold», a self-taught from Leningrad, Vladimir Vavilov» , — said the director.

Screenings will take place in Moscow, at the Oktyabr cinema, from January 24 to February 4, and in St. Petersburg, at the Warsaw Express, from January 31 to February 11.
The retrospective will be held within the framework of the KARO.Art project with the support of the film distribution company «Kino.Art.Pro» and dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the film company «Two Captains». The program includes 11 films, including “Incandescent Chaos”, “Holy Archipelago”, “Rock Beyond”, “The Last Knight of the Empire”, and the adventure drama “The Golden Ratio”. Also, for the first time in 30 years, the film “Two Captains-2” with Sergei Kuryokhin, which will be shown from film, will be shown on the screen, the press service of the film company “Two Captains” clarified.
