MOSCOW, January 28It is unacceptable to interfere with the work of journalists, whose activities are regulated by law, it is a crime, said Vladimir Tyulin, General Director of the Izvestia MIC, Deputy General Director of NMG.
On Saturday evening, the publication reported that its correspondent and cameraman were attacked at a blogger's seminar. Journalist Natalia Grafchikova reported that the film crew, when they got to the event, introduced themselves as Izvestia journalists. A criminal case was opened regarding obstruction of the legitimate professional activities of journalists due to an attack on an Izvestia journalist and a cameraman in the Moscow region, the State Investigative Directorate of Russia for the Moscow Region reported later in the Telegram channel.
“Procedural decisions are, of course, on the side of law enforcement agencies, but we hope that all participants in this crime will be punished in the near future. And let this become an instructive example of the fact that it is unacceptable to interfere with the work of journalists, whose activities are regulated by law. And attacks on journalists are the same crime as the use of violence against representatives of the law,” Tyulin said, as quoted by the publication’s press service.
He thanked the law enforcement agencies for their prompt response to the incident.
“I would like to thank all law enforcement agencies — the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Investigative Committee, the Prosecutor's Office of the Moscow Region for the most prompt response to this outrageous incident. Natalia has repeatedly worked in the Northern Military District zone, is a government award laureate, a respected correspondent, and such a situation, of course, is completely unacceptable — first of all , simply in relation to a woman,” Tyulin added.
On Saturday evening, the publication reported that its correspondent and cameraman were attacked at Tliashinova's seminar. Grafchikova reported that the film crew, when they got to the event, introduced themselves as Izvestia journalists. The journalist herself, whose words were quoted by the publication, began filming on her phone, as the operator’s camera fogged up. At that moment, the publication noted, security guards ran up to the correspondent and threw her to the floor, the operator was “attacked” by two more, and Grafchikova was “literally thrown out the door in her socks, and the operator’s camera was broken and the flash drive was taken away.” On the street, as the publication wrote, the correspondent was attacked by a security guard and two of Tliashinova’s assistants: one of the men began to insult the journalist, took away her phone, and then “completely began to strangle her.” The publication later reported that Grafchikova received multiple bruises during the attack; she was also suspected of having a concussion and a closed craniocerebral injury.
According to Izvestia, the RF Investigative Committee began a pre-investigation check. Law enforcement officials have no comment yet.
Grafchikova is a professional journalist and war correspondent, as Izvestia wrote, she is “one of the few who worked in Kherson at the time of the evacuation of residents under heavy fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.” She was awarded by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin with the Russian Government Prize in the field of media for covering the special operation and life in new regions, and the Governor of the Moscow Region Andrei Vorobyov presented her with gratitude for her participation in humanitarian projects.
