WARSAW, 5 Feb. Head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Pole Witold Banka said that he intends to run again for the post of president of the organization in 2025.
Banka took the post of head of WADA in 2020, replacing Craig Reedy in this post, and in November 2022 he was re-elected for a new term. Before joining WADA, Banka served as the Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland.
““I feel very good in international structures and do not plan to return to (Polish) politics. In 2025, I am considering the possibility of again being a candidate for the post of head of the World Anti-Doping Agency, and this is my goal for the coming years,” said Bathhouse on the air of the radio station RMF FM.
In June 2023, the WADA Board of Trustees approved a number of amendments to the organization’s charter and governance regulations. Changes include extending the first term of office for the organization's president and vice president from three to six years; in addition, functionaries can be re-elected for a further three years and cannot hold office for a cumulative period of more than nine years.
Earlier, the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of Russia, citing the director of the service, Sergei Naryshkin, reported that, trying to maintain dominance in sports, the United States is increasingly trying to disrupt sporting events organized in Russia. It was noted that the main hopes rest on WADA and its president Banka personally. The SVR release stated that “the Americans proceed from the fact that Banka is interested in successfully continuing his career after the expiration of his term at WADA in 2025 and, in order to get a “warm place”, will serve as their “guard dog.”
Banka 39 years old. He is a former track and field athlete specializing in short-distance running. In 2007 he became a bronze medalist at the World Championships in the 4×400 m relay.
