Rumors that Bugatti will replace the 8.0-liter W16 with a much more compact one when moving from the Chiron to the new base model V8, not confirmed. Today, the French company itself showed a new engine: the number of cylinders is the same, but their arrangement has changed.
The outgoing base model means the Bugatti Chiron, production of which began in 2016, the official edition of this supercar was 500 copies , it includes all versions with the word Chiron in the title. The last example was the unique Chiron Profilée, sold last February at RM Sotheby's for €9,792,500.
The Chiron platform has also launched several individual models, including the Divo, La Voiture Noire, Centodieci and W16 Mistral. Production of the Bugatti W16 Mistral just started in January of this year, so it's too early to say goodbye to the 8.0-liter W16 engine. The same engine powers the Bugatti Bolide track supercar, the production of which has also not yet been completed. The Bolide has a completely original body, which is in no way connected with the Chiron, but it still has the same engine — the W16 in the most powerful version, 1600-horsepower. In short, there are still a couple of years before the final retirement of the W16, the first carrier of which was the Bugatti Veyron in 2005. Nevertheless, Bugatti is already conjuring up a successor and a new base model, the first public display of which will take place next summer.
Last summer, the British magazine Autocar claimed that the new Bugatti supercar will receive a hybrid power plant based on a V8, but this is a rare case when the British colleagues were mistaken: in fact, the upcoming new product will receive a V16 engine created from scratch — this is also a very rare configuration in the auto industry, the last small-scale car with such an engine was the Italian supercar Cizeta-Moroder, developed in the late 1980s.
On teasers of the new V16 from Bugatti can be seen with full carbon fiber intake manifolds and a longitudinal bar between the cylinder heads, which indicates the firing order of the cylinders.
On Youtube you can already listen to how the new Bugatti engine sounds, and there in the shadows in the background you can see something very similar to the snails of four turbochargers, that is, you can expect that the output of the new V16 will be no less than that of the outgoing one W16, also equipped with four turbochargers. In addition, it has been officially announced that the new supercar will be a hybrid, that is, the total power of the power plant will certainly be much more than 1600 hp. — most likely closer to 2000 hp, and possibly higher.
The most powerful production supercar at the moment is the electric Lotus Evija, the four-motor power plant of which produces 2039 hp.
