A British policeman who emigrated to Australia has died in an accident at an engagement party.

A British man who moved to Australia and became a respected policeman died in a terrible accident incident at his engagement party after he fell and cut his neck.

Liam Trimmer, 29, and his fiancée, a nurse, threw a party on Sunday at their home in Western Australia to announce this family and friends. that they are going to get married.

Mr Trimmer emigrated about ten years ago to start a new life and joined the police force in Western Australia.

He graduated from the state police academy, located about 20 miles north of Perth, in 2013.

In 2017 he moved to the mining town of Kalgoorlie, 370 miles east of Perth, where he joined the local rugby team. He was a member of the Police Tactical Response Team.

He participated in the BBC program Wanted Down Under, which gave British families a taste of life in Australia and New Zealand before deciding to emigrate. He gave a British teenager advice on what to expect if she moved to Australia.

'Poster boy'

He was described as the «poster boy» for Western Australia Police, urging other British officers to emigrate and join the force.

“Everything was done to try to save him, but it didn't happen. » said Colonel Blanch, Western Australia Police Commissioner.

She said: «Like I understand, this police officer came from the UK to start a new life in Washington. My condolences go out to the family and friends of [that] officer.»

Paul Gale, president of the Western Australian Police Union, said: «Every time there is a death of a police officer, it doesn't matter how, it really shakes the core of policing families.»

Last year, Western Australia launched an international recruitment campaign to recruit police officers from Great Britain, Ireland and New Zealand.

WA Police wants to recruit 750 officers from overseas within five years.

“I intend to steal your best people. No shame,” said Paul Papalia, the state's police minister. “Western Australia is a great place to live and work. Compared to the UK, we have higher wages, a lower cost of living and an ideal climate.”
