Washington Capitals continue to struggle to get into the zone playoffs of the National Hockey League (NHL). As part of the home series in the regular season, the capital hosted the Winnipeg Jets. The meeting ended in victory for Washington, despite Winnipeg's significant advantage in key statistical indicators.

Thanks to another double, Ovechkin brought his total number of goals in the NHL regular season to 848 and reduced the gap from Gretzky in the main sniper standings of the league championships.
