Toyota 4Runner is preparing for a generation change: the new SUV appeared in the first teaser

According to preliminary data, the Japanese brand will introduce its next SUV, designed for the American market, within the next few weeks.

Toyota has been producing the 4Runner mid-size SUV since 1984. Since then, it has changed generations four times, with the current fifth-generation model appearing back in 2009. The SUV underwent a “facelift” in 2013, followed by a series of “light” updates, and in 2022 the 40th Anniversary version appeared. Now, 15 years later, the manufacturer is developing the sixth generation 4Runner.

Note that sales of the current model in its main market, the USA, have been declining for a couple of years in a row. According to the Goodcarbadcar website, at the end of last year, American dealers sold 109,951 units, which is about 9% less than a year earlier. For comparison, in the SUV's peak year of 2021, the 4Runner sold 144,696 units.

The company has not officially announced the date for the presentation of the new product, but the next Toyota 4Runner is expected to debut within the next few weeks. The Japanese manufacturer has so far announced the future SUV with only one not very informative teaser: only part of the rear of the car is visible.

Judging by the photo, the new generation model will receive a silver lower part of the bumper with integrated reflectors and rear parking sensors. Also, the SUV will likely have a different rear design, which may have a number of similarities with the Toyota Land Cruiser presented last year (in some markets — Land Cruiser Prado). By the way, apparently, from him the new product will also receive a bright blue tint for the body color.

Judging by the partially visible left lamp, the sixth generation Toyota 4Runner will have different optics on the rear. In addition, the car will receive a differently designed handle on the tailgate.

It is expected that the new body-on-frame SUV will be based on the TNGA-F modular platform, which it will share with other Toyota models in the American market — already the aforementioned Land Cruiser, as well as the Tacoma and Sequoia. It is expected that the next 4Runner will have a folding third row of seats, and the dimensions will remain approximately the same (the current SUV has a length of 4823 mm, a width of 1925 mm, and a height of 1816 mm).

According to preliminary information, the next Toyota 4Runner will be equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbo engine. It is expected that its output will be 282 hp, and the maximum torque will be 429 Nm.

What the price tag of the new product, which will most likely be assigned to the 2025 model year, is still unknown. The starting version of the current SUV in the US costs at least $40,155.
