Consumers have the right to receive reliable and complete information about the goods they purchase on marketplaces. However, only a few products have proper quality certificates and declarations of conformity. Sercons experts recalled that online platforms may be required to provide links to product quality certificates. This measure will allow people to choose only safe products.
In order to ensure the safety of goods, the authorities decided to oblige sellers on online platforms to provide a link to a certificate or declaration entered in the RosAccreditation register. This will allow you to confirm the authenticity and safety of the product.
A corresponding service that allows you to verify the authenticity of the certificate provided by the seller has already been created. Moreover, some companies already have the technical capabilities to implement this approach and are voluntarily using it for some products on marketplaces.
Sercons certification expert Yuri Moshkov expressed confidence that ensuring the safety of goods offered in the e-commerce segment is a pressing topic. According to him, when the law regulating the activities of marketplaces is adopted, such a measure will help push out illegal products.
“Most buyers want to purchase products that meet mandatory standards and are verified by relevant documents. One of the sure-fire ways to protect yourself from purchasing illegal or low-quality products is to check the certificates or declarations that can be found on the website of the Russian Accreditation Agency. They are documentary evidence that the product meets all necessary requirements and standards. Following this approach, there is a chance to gradually push illegal products out of the market and ensure the safety of buyers,” said the expert.
Yuri Moshkov also said that in order to consult a customer regarding the required document for a product, the name, area of use and technical description are required. As part of this control measure, online sellers may require assistance in the following matters:
- Certification of products in accordance with the necessary technical regulations and national standards;
- Full support in the process of issuing a declaration of compliance with the product;
- Voluntary certification of products in one of the voluntary accreditation systems;
- State registration and assistance in carrying out this procedure.
Sercons added that goods offered on online platforms must be certified in accordance with the general rules applicable to all manufacturers. Materials confirming compliance include certificates, declarations or certificates of state registration (SGR). In the absence of such documents, supervisory authorities have the right to seize goods from any trading platform.
