According to AVTOVAZ’s plan, by the end of this year the volume of cars produced will be 1.5 thousand units. Granta was the first to enter the assembly line.
AVTOVAZ previously discussed the possibility of organizing the assembly of Lada cars abroad, we are talking in particular about Azerbaijan. The relevant information was presented as part of the January press conference dedicated to the results of 2023 and the plans of the Russian company for the next few years. In the middle of last month, the head of the company, Maxim Sokolov, said that negotiations were underway.
Now it has become known that AVTOVAZ has already launched production of Lada cars in Azerbaijan, Interfax reports. with reference to the company's press service. According to the manufacturer's plan, the volume of cars assembled at foreign sites by the end of this year will be about 1.5 thousand units.
AVTOVAZ noted that at one of the Azerbaijani production sites a receiving area for vehicle kits was organized, as well as an assembly shop and a parking lot for storing finished cars. It is reported that the personnel who were hired as part of the project for large-scale assembly of Lada models were trained by specialists working at the enterprise in Tolyatti.
According to Maxim Sokolov, the start of production of brand cars in Azerbaijan was given by the “people's car” Lada Granta. In addition, it is known that by the end of this year, according to the plan, the assembly of Niva Legend and Niva Travel SUVs should start at this site. The company explained that test samples have now been collected and are at the quality control stage. Also, by the end of 2024, the assembly of Vesta family cars will be mastered here.
The head of AVTOVAZ noted that in the future, the annual production of Lada cars in Azerbaijan will reach the level of 4-5 thousand cars. According to the plan, the foreign site will reach this level within the next few years. It is expected that the share of the Russian brand in the car market of this country will increase significantly as a result.
We would like to remind you that AVTOVAZ intends to expand its model line in the future. The start of production of the Lada Aura is scheduled for this year, and the appearance of a version of the Lada Niva Sport, created on the basis of the “classic” SUV, is also expected. The start of production of cars of the new Lada Iskra family is planned for the beginning of 2025. Later, an as-yet unnamed crossover will debut in the B segment on the Vesta platform.
