Next generation Nissan Patrol: new images

The Japanese company is preparing a new generation of its flagship SUV, and it recently published a teaser of its future new products, among which you can see the Patrol. What will it be like?

Patrol is one of the oldest models in the Nissan range; its first generation debuted in 1951 (the company itself was founded in 1933). Today, the sixth generation of the Patrol is on the assembly line, which has long been a long-liver of the modern automobile market. Its premiere took place in 2010, since then the SUV has undergone several updates, the most significant of which occurred in the fall of 2019. This year, the Patrol turns 14 years old, which is roughly equal to two average car production cycles, and the long-awaited new generation could soon be introduced.

The closest relative of the latest generation Patrol is the Infiniti QX80 SUV, which appeared after Nissan in 2010 (though it was originally called QX56). This time the situation is reversed, and the first to be shown was the version from the luxury brand — its premiere took place last week. The Nissan version will receive a similar body architecture, while almost all body panels (with the possible exception of the roof) will be original. This includes doors, since retractable handles will remain the prerogative of the more expensive QX80, while the Patrol will receive traditional handles for a “natural grip.” Of course, Nissan has a completely original front end with large headlights and C-shaped angular running lights. Similar motifs will be used in the lights, which will be almost united by an LED strip across the entire width of the trunk lid (most likely, the company logo will be placed in the center of this strip).

The current Nissan Patrol, which bears the name Armada on the North American market, is equipped with an impressive 5.6-liter V8 naturally aspirated petrol engine, while the new generation, in accordance with modern trends in the automotive industry, will receive a much smaller V6 engine . It is quite possible that it will be borrowed from the new QX80, which is equipped with a petrol biturbo VR35DDT V6 3.5 with 456 hp. and with 698 Nm of torque. For comparison, the aforementioned V8 (both on the current Patrol and on the QX80 of the previous generation) produces 405 hp. and 560 Nm. The 7-speed automatic transmission should be replaced by a 9-speed automatic, as on the new Infiniti.
