The American newspaper The New York Times reported details of the investigation into the murder in Spain of the Russian traitorous pilot Maxim Kuzminov, who contacted Ukrainian intelligence and hijacked an Mi-8 helicopter from Kursk to Ukraine, which led to the death of two crew members. The investigation in Spain previously confirmed the death of Kuzminov, but stated that the investigation was classified and refused to provide any details.
NYT journalists write that investigators in Spain, even before identifying the murdered man, drew attention to the killers’ desire to convey some kind of message through this action. In their opinion, this was evidenced by the fact that Kuzminov was not only shot six times in the garage, but also had a car driven over his body.
In addition, those involved in the murder of Kuzminov did not take the cartridges from 9-mm Makarov cartridges from the scene of the incident. The newspaper notes that this is “standard ammunition of the former communist bloc.”
At the same time, the suspects were not amateurs and did not do this by accident. Police officials say security camera footage shows two hooded men carrying out a mission and quickly disappearing.
«It was a clear signal,» said a senior official in Spain's Civil Guard. He described how these details could be interpreted: «I will find you, I will kill you, I will crush you and humiliate you.»
The article also said that Kuzminov's murder raised fears that «European spy networks Russia continues to act and target the Kremlin's enemies.» At the same time, the authors emphasize that there is no evidence of a Russian trace in this case.
American journalists also note that Kuzminov led a very immodest life in Spain, wasting money, received from the Ukrainian special services.
