YAROSLAVL, April 1The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Yaroslavl region opened a criminal case for violation of traffic rules, which resulted in the death of people, after a collision between a train and a bus at a crossing near Pereslavl, reports the regional prosecutor's office.
«»Prosecutor of the Yaroslavl region Alexander Lorenz put the progress and results of the investigation under special control a criminal case initiated by the investigative bodies of the regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules resulting in the death of two or more persons through negligence) on the fact of a traffic accident involving a train and a regular bus,” the prosecutor’s office reports.
Previously, the RF IC reported on the initiation of a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic safety rules and operation of railway transport, resulting in the death of two or more persons through negligence).
According to Northern railway, at 14.36 Moscow time, at a controlled railway crossing between the Shushkovo and Berendeevo stations of the Northern Railway in the Yaroslavl region, the bus driver drove onto the tracks in front of the approaching passenger train No. 15 on the Arkhangelsk-Moscow route. The train driver applied the emergency brake, but the distance was insufficient and a collision could not be avoided. The North-Western Transport Prosecutor's Office clarified that, preliminary, the bus could not leave the tracks on time due to a technical breakdown.
According to updated data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, six bus passengers died in the accident — according to the police, they were women — and the driver . The train driver was injured. Later, Governor Mikhail Evraev reported that the crossing manager was drunk and allowed the bus to pass, although the train was moving.
