The mid-size electric crossover Denza N7 entered the Chinese market in July last year, but did not achieve success, and now BYD, which owns the Denza brand, is trying to relaunch this model by revising the configuration and significantly reducing prices.
The premium Denza brand was launched in 2010 as part of a joint venture between BYD and Daimler (now Mercedes-Benz), but its commercial performance was very modest. By 2021, Mercedes-Benz finally lost interest in Denza, reduced its share in the joint venture with BYD from 50 to 10%, since then Denza is, in fact, one of the subsidiary brands of BYD, the German company is no longer even involved in the design of Denza models .

The new Denza model range under the leadership of BYD began to be formed in 2022, now it consists of three models — the D9 minivan, the flagship three-row crossover N8 and the coupe-shaped crossover N7. Minivans account for more than 90% of Denza's sales volume, but crossovers sell poorly. In particular, Denza N7 sold less than 3,000 copies in China in 2023, the result of January-February of this year was only 614 units sold.

The N7 crossover, unlike the other two Denza models, is offered only with electric powertrains (the D9 and N8 also have plug-in hybrid powertrains), it is expensive, and competition in the EV segment of the Chinese market sharply intensified last year amid a global slowdown in demand for electric vehicles. Denza N7 entered the market at the height of a price war between electric train manufacturers, now it is also participating in this war — yesterday in China there was a presentation of a crossover for the 2024 model year with a starting price reduced by 20.5%, now Denza N7 can be purchased for 239,800 yuan (3.05 million rubles translated at the current exchange rate). For comparison, let's say that the basic version of the Tesla Model Y crossover, with which the Denza N7 is trying to compete, costs 263,900 yuan (3.35 million rubles).
Overall length of Denza N7 — 4860 mm, width — 1935 mm, height — 1602-1625 mm depending on modification, wheelbase — 2940 mm. The adaptive air suspension can change the ground clearance in the range from 120 to 200 mm. The basic version of the 550 Pro has a single electric motor on the rear axle (231 hp, 380 Nm) and a battery with a capacity of 71.8 kWh, a full charge of which is enough for 550 km of range on the CLTC cycle.< br />

The next-ranking version of the 702 Pro is also single-engine, rear-wheel drive, but more powerful (313 hp, 360 Nm) and longer range: battery capacity — 91.3 kWh, range on one charge — 702 km.
Versions 630 Max and 630 Ultra— all-wheel drive with two electric motors, their maximum combined output is 530 hp. and 670 Nm, acceleration to 100 km/h takes 3.9 seconds. The battery capacity is 91.3 kWh, the range on one charge is 630 km. The 630 Ultra version is the richest and most expensive in the range, it costs 329,800 yuan (4.19 million rubles), which is however less than the price of the top version of the Tesla Model Y, which currently costs 368,900 yuan (4.68 million rubles) in China. .

The interior of the Denza N7 has a very expensive-looking finish. The front panel houses three monitors: a 10.25-inch instrument monitor, a 17.3-inch central multimedia monitor, and a 10.25-inch passenger monitor. The driver also has a huge 50-inch augmented reality projection screen on the windshield. A 1.93 m2 panoramic transparent roof is included as standard. The top version sports luxury rear seats with ventilation, massagers and individual entertainment monitors. The volume of the main trunk is 480 l (with the rear seat backs folded — 1200 l), the volume of the additional front trunk is 73 l.
We would like to add that this year BYD plans to start selling Denza models in Europe, but in Russia they are not officially presented at the moment, but are available from gray dealers.
