Biography of Alla Pugacheva

Soviet and Russian pop singer, People's Artist of the USSR Alla Borisovna Pugacheva was born on April 15, 1949 in Moscow. I have been interested in music since childhood. At the age of five she took part in a concert held in the Hall of Columns of the House of Unions. She studied at the music school at the Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov College (now the State Musical Pedagogical Institute).
In 1965, for the All-Union Radio program “Good Morning!” Alla Pugacheva recorded her first song “Robot” (music by Mikhail Tanich, lyrics by Levon Merabov).
In 1966 she graduated from the conducting and choral department of the Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov Music School, in 1981 from the department of pop art of the State Institute of Theater Arts named after A.V. Lunacharsky (now the Russian Institute of Theater Arts — GITIS) with a degree in variety directing.

In 1966-1967, Alla Pugacheva's first tour of Western Siberia took place as part of the propaganda team of the Yunost radio station.

In 1967, she became an accompanist at the State School of Circus and Variety Arts, and in 1970, an artist at Rosconcert. .
Before starting her solo professional career, Pugacheva worked with many groups. She was a soloist of the Lipetsk vocal-instrumental ensemble «New Electron» (1969), the ensemble «Muscovites» (1971), the pop orchestra under the direction of Oleg Lundstrem (1972-1973), the vocal-instrumental ensemble «Jolly Fellows» under the direction of Pavel Slobodkin (1974 -1976). In 1977-1980 she performed with the group «Rhythm» under the leadership of Alexander Avilov. Since 1980, the singer’s performances have been accompanied for many years by the group “Recital” under the leadership of Yuri Shakhnazarov.
In 1976, the singer’s first disc, “Alla Pugacheva Sings,” was released in Bulgaria. In the USSR, the solo disc “Mirror of the Soul” was released in 1977.
Along with her concert activities, Alla Pugacheva took part in many festivals and song competitions. In 1974, she received third prize at the V All-Union Competition of Variety Artists with the songs “Let’s Sit and Eat” and “Ermolova from Chistye Prudy”; in 1975 she won the Grand Prix of the Golden Orpheus festival (Bulgaria), where she performed the song “Harlequin” by the Bulgarian composer and singer Emil Dimitrov; in 1978, at the competition «Sopot-78» (Poland), she won the Grand Prix «Amber Nightingale» with the song «Kings Can Do Anything».

In June 1982, the singer performed at the Olympia Hall in Paris, and in November at the Olimpico Hall in Italy.
In 1988, Alla Pugacheva created and headed the Song Theater studio theater. As its artistic director, she organized numerous tours of the cities of the USSR with programs in which theater artists took part, many of whom later became Russian pop stars.
In 1988, Pugacheva made her first tour of the United States. In the same year, the premiere of the television program “A Woman is Always Right” took place.
Over the years of her creative activity, Alla Pugacheva has created many concert programs: “The Woman Who Sings” (1979), “Monologues of the Singer” (1981), “We Have a Maestro Visiting” (1981), the theatrical performance “I Came and I Say” (1984) , solo program “Alla Pugacheva Sings” (1993).

In 1997, with the song “Primadonna”, Pugacheva took part in the Eurovision Song Contest, where she took 15th place.
In In 1998, the singer created the “Yes!” program. and “Favorites”, in 2002 – the program “Alla Pugacheva Sings”.
In 2009, Alla Pugacheva announced the termination of touring activities. In 2009-2010, she made a farewell world tour, “Dreams of Love.”
The singer’s discography includes more than 100 solo records, CDs and DVDs. In addition to Russia and the countries of the former USSR, Pugacheva’s albums were published abroad.

In 2004, she was the artistic director of Star Factory 5. In 2005, she became the organizer of the “Song of the Year” festival together with Igor Krutoy, at the same time Pugacheva was chosen as the “muse” of the “New Wave” competition in Jurmala.
In 2007-2010, the radio station “Radio Alla”, created by Pugacheva, went on the air together with the broadcasting corporation ProfMedia. The singer held the position of artistic director of the station and was the host of a number of programs.
In 2011, Pugacheva headed the “Factor A” project on the “Russia 1” TV channel, dedicated to the search for talent. In the same year, she was the host of the weekly program “Morning Mail” (Ukraine). Pugacheva also hosted the show “Two Stars” on Channel One (2008).
In 2019, the last major concert of the singer “Alla Pugacheva. P.S.”, dedicated to her 70th birthday, took place at the State Kremlin Palace.

In March 2024, Pugacheva released her first album in 16 years, “P.S,” which included 20 audio recordings from the anniversary concert in the Kremlin Palace. At the same time, the singer’s new song “Don’t worry about me” (lyrics by Alla Pugacheva, music by Konstantin Gubin) was released.
The singer made her film debut in 1976 in the short film «Ensemble of Losers», where she performed the song «Harlequin». In 1978, she starred in the title role and performed for the first time as a professional composer (under the pseudonym Boris Gorbonos) in the film “The Woman Who Sings.” In the same year, the premiere of the television film “Alla Pugacheva’s Theater”, filmed by Tallinn TV, took place. In 1985, she played the main role in the film about the fate of the singer “I Came and Say.” In 2003, Pugacheva starred in the leading role in the film musical “Chasing Two Hares.” She also played roles in the films “Love for Love (1983), “Season of Miracles” (1985), “Julia” (1992), “Old Songs about the Main Thing” (1997, 1998), “The Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors” (2007).
Songs performed by Pugacheva are heard in the films “The Deer King” (1969), “Stoves and Benches” (1972), “The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!” (1975), “Vesnukhin’s Fantasies” (1977) , “Starry Summer” (1978), “Above the Rainbow” (1986), “The Irony of Fate. Alla Pugacheva's first husband was Lithuanian circus performer Mikolas Orbakas, from this marriage she had a daughter, Kristina, in 1971. Kristina Orbakaite is a singer and actress, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
Pugacheva was also married to director Alexander Stefanovich (1944-2021), producer Evgeniy Boldin. In 1994-2005, Alla Pugacheva’s husband was singer Philip Kirkorov.

Since 2005, Alla Pugacheva has been in a civil marriage with artist Maxim Galkin* (an individual performing the functions of a foreign agent); the couple officially formalized their relationship in December 2011. In September 2013, Pugacheva and Galkin (an individual acting as a foreign agent) became the parents of twins Lisa and Harry.
