MOSCOW, April 19 Formerly the head of the Real Madrid football club Frenchman Zinedine Zidane is close to taking over as Bayern Munich head coach, Mundo Deportivo reports.
In February it became known that the current Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel would leave his post. He has been working at the club since March 2023. Under his leadership, the team became the German champion at the end of the 2022/23 season. The current championship was won ahead of schedule by Bayer. Previously, Bayern won the Bundesliga for 11 years in a row.
According to the source, the 51-year-old Frenchman is the main candidate for the post of head coach of the Munich team. It is noted that Zidane has already asked the club's management to strengthen the defense line.
Earlier, Corriere dello Sport reported that the management of Bayern has already begun a dialogue with Zidane. The list of candidates also includes ex-coach of Bayern Munich and the German national team Hans-Dieter Flick, former head coach of Real Madrid Jose Mourinho and former head of the Italian Juventus Antonio Conte.
Zidane's last job was Real Madrid, where he coached from 2016-2018 and from March 2019 to May 2021. With Los Blancos he won the Champions League three times, the Spanish Championship twice, the national Super Cup, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
