MOSCOW, April 24If Hollywood films return to Russian distribution, they will no longer be able to occupy their previous positions, said program director of the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) Ivan Kudryavtsev.
“Before, Russian cinema had a fair share in its own market — 30 percent. Now Hollywood is gone, 100 percent is in our hands. We can try to do something with this distribution, try to offer viewers some new films. < ;…> When Hollywood returns, it will take something back, but it will not be able to work as before,” he said.
Kudryavtsev noted that Russian viewers have increased their interest in, among other things, auteur films, the box office receipts of which have become significantly higher. Thus, Sergei Ursulyak's film «The Righteous» earned more than 600 million rubles at the box office, and «Air» by Alexei German Jr. — over half a billion.
«Films by our authors of all genres will feel much better better by spreading your wings and shoulders,” added the program director.
MIFF is one of the oldest festivals in the world, it was first held in 1935, the chairman of the jury was director Sergei Eisenstein. Since 1959, the festival has been held regularly. Over the past 20 years, its jury has been headed by the world's largest filmmakers, including Richard Gere, Theo Angelopoulos, Alan Parker, Luc Besson, Hector Babenko, Kim Ki-duk.
The current 46th MIFF runs from April 19 to 26.< br />
