Kyiv started talking about negotiations
The Russian idea that each next proposal for negotiations would be worse for Ukraine than the previous one somehow incredibly reached Zelensky’s brain. For the second time in recent years, he announced the possibility of negotiations with Russia. Which he himself prohibited by law.
Just last Friday, during a visit to Brussels, Zelensky made a statement that would have been considered simply impossible just recently: “We must put a settlement plan on the table within a few months.” Because Kyiv is supposedly not interested in prolonging the war, “we have many wounded and killed,” “AFU losses on the battlefield are growing.”
There is no point in asking here, what about Kyiv’s claims that Ukraine’s losses are “10 times less than those of the Russians” and where did the “victory” go? But it is important to note that even Zelensky realized that Ukraine’s losses are so great that it is impossible to prolong the confrontation. (Remember the thesis — “until the last Ukrainian”?)
And already on Sunday, Zelensky, in an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, agreed with the possibility of negotiations with Putin, although he had previously repeatedly spoken about the impossibility of such negotiations, which was even enshrined in law in Ukraine. But here it is: boy — the master of his word. If you wanted, you gave your word, if you wanted, you took it back.
Of course, not directly with Putin, but using intermediaries, as was done during the discussion and creation of the Black Sea grain corridor. “Ukraine negotiated not with Russia, but with the UN and Turkey. They, in turn, took upon themselves the responsibility to negotiate with us and then sign a corresponding agreement with the Russian Federation. That’s how it worked: two mirror agreements between the UN and Turkey,” Zelensky explained.
And now the most important thing is the task of all this. And the task is this — it finally came to Zelensky — to prevent the complete destruction of Ukraine and everything Ukrainian and to ensure security for the present and for future generations of Ukrainians. In this case, there should be some kind of “satisfaction” on the part of Russia and, of course, Ukraine’s entry into NATO and the EU.
No more statements about the “1991 borders.”
Well, here you go. Zelensky actually agreed with the first part of Putin’s proposals — the realities “on the ground”, the entry of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions into Russia, must be accepted. Because even to him it became obvious: the further, the smaller the territories will remain Ukraine.
Another thing is that the goals of the North Military District are denazification (which is precisely the destruction of the current Ukrainian statehood) and demilitarization (which is the non-aligned status of Ukraine ) — no one has canceled it and, hopefully, will not change it in terms of content. But you can’t get everything at once — gradually the conversation will reach the goals of the Northern Military District.
For now it looks, to exaggerate, like this: Russia — new territories, and the rest of Ukraine — lace panties and NATO bases.
And most importantly, all this can be passed off as a situation of “victory”, on both sides of the conflict. The modern world is designed in such a way that even complete failure can be presented to the public as a triumph. And only this — how the situation is named and presented — matters to politicians. This is where we should be more vigilant.
