The new product of the American brand is addressed to the European market. The “green” SUV will go on sale later this year. Prices are already known.
Ford entered into an agreement with Volkswagen back in 2020. As part of this partnership, several joint projects were implemented. The list also includes the release of a pair of all-electric Ford crossovers intended for the European market. The first was the Explorer EV, presented in March 2023: only the name has something in common with the “regular” Explorer. Now its version with a coupe-like body has debuted, which received its own name — Capri.

The name may seem familiar to many, since from 1968 to 1986 the American brand produced a sports coupe under it. Now the manufacturer has decided to revive this name for a new cross-coupe addressed to the old-world market. The project was implemented jointly with VW, so it is not surprising that the “donor” for the Ford Capri was the Volkswagen ID.5 SUV (similar to the fact that the closest relative of the Explorer EV is the ID.4 crossover with a traditional roofline).
The design features of the new product include a wide black strip that connects the headlights and acts as a plug in place of the radiator grille. The head optics themselves have a simple streamlined shape with dashes of running lights (four arcs in each headlight). The rear lights also received a similar lighting design.
The new crossover has traditional door handles, regular exterior mirrors with black housings, a body kit made of glossy black plastic around the perimeter of the body, and black front and center pillars. The roof is crowned with a “shark fin” antenna, and the logo of the American brand is placed on the edge of the spoiler on the tailgate. The new Capri is available with wheels with a diameter of 19 to 20 inches, and 21-inch rollers are optionally available.
The interior of the Ford Capri is the same as that of the European Explorer: in the center of the dashboard there is a vertical tablet of the infotainment system, its diagonal is 14.6 inches. In front of the driver there is a steering wheel “flattened” on both sides with a central silver spoke with holes; the front seats have a massage function; In addition, the list of equipment includes wireless charging for smartphones.
The Ford Capri is based on the Volkswagen modular MEB platform (like its relatives mentioned above). Its overall length is 4634 mm (166 mm more than the European Explorer), width — 1872 mm, height — 1626 mm. The trunk volume is 572 liters (under the curtain), the maximum volume of the cargo space is 1510 liters.
The new Ford on the old-world market will be offered with two options of «filling». The starting version has a single 286-horsepower electric motor located on the rear axle, as well as a traction battery with a capacity of 77 kW * h. The range on one charge according to the passport is 627 km (calculated according to the WLTP cycle). This version takes 6.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.
The top-end all-wheel drive version has a dual-motor installation (one electric motor on each axle), the total output is 340 hp. The system also includes a 79 kWh battery, the range without recharging is 592 km. This SUV needs 5.3 seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds”. The maximum speed for any version is limited to 180 km/h.

The all-electric cross-coupe will go on sale later this year. Serial production of the Ford Capri will be launched at the plant in Cologne, where the European Explorer is currently being produced. In Germany, for the starting version of the new product they are asking 50,911 euros (equivalent to approximately 4.87 million rubles at the current exchange rate), and purchasing the top version will cost no less than 58,457 euros (about 5.59 million rubles).
