Traffic opened on section of Baikal highway in Buryatia

ULAN-UDE, August 7 Traffic on a section of the federal highway R-258 «Baikal» in Buryatia has opened for all types of transport, the press service of the regional government reported.
“On the section 555 – 590 km of the R-258 Baikal highway Irkutsk — Ulan-Ude — Chita (Republic of Buryatia, Khonkholoi village) traffic is open for all types of transport,” the message says.

The republic's Ministry of Transport clarified that transport can travel in both directions on the bridge across the Tugnui (km 543) and Khonkholoika (km 589) rivers, and in reverse mode on the bridge across the Sukhara (km 555).

A republican emergency regime has been declared in Buryatia due to the difficult flood situation in three districts — Tarbagatai, Zaigraevsky, and Mukhorshibirsky. Due to the breakthrough of the dam on the Khonkholoy reservoir in the Mukhorshibirsky district of the republic and the flooding of the federal road R-258 «Baikal», on August 1, all types of motor vehicles were closed on the section from the 543rd to the 590th km. Three bridges were damaged by the flood: across the Tugnui River at 543 km, the Sukhara at 555 km, and the Khonkholoika at 589 km. Detours were organized.
