Silicon Valley was rocked by the murder of a cryptocurrency startup founder, whose violent death prompted Elon Musk to question police response to street crime in San Francisco.
Bob Lee, founder of Cash App, died Tuesday from multiple stab wounds sustained in an apparent attack outside a luxury apartment building in an area where major financial and technology companies are headquartered, including Google.

Ms. Jenkins, the District Attorney said the city will not tolerate «horrible» crimes such as Mr. Lee's death and that bringing repeat offenders to justice is a «top priority.»
Crime data shows that In the first three months of this year, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) recorded 12 homicides, up from 10 during the same period last year. This year, there were 660 reported robberies and 591 attacks.
According to 2020 data analyzed by the San Francisco Chronicle, the city's overall reported violent crime rate was 21% below the average for the 20 most populous cities in the United States. Property crimes such as theft, however, were unusually higher at 41% above average.
Tech entrepreneurs mourn
Mr. Lee, who recently moved to Florida, visited San Francisco for work, including including as Product Director of MobileCoin and CEO of Present.
In addition to calling himself an "angel investor" for startups, including backing Mr. Musk's SpaceX and social media site Clubhouse, Mr. Lee has been well respected for his work building Cash App, a mobile payment service popular in the US and UK.
Initially, police did not identify the head of the technical department as the victim, but Mr. Lee's father, Rick Lee, confirmed his son's death in a Facebook tribute in which he remembered his «best friend».
"Bob would tell you the back of the shirt" Rick Lee wrote.
"He never looked down on anyone and adhered to a strict philosophy without judgment. Bobby worked the hardest and was the smartest person I have ever known. He will be missed by all who knew him.”
Mr. Lee's former boss, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, was one of many well-known tech figures who expressed shock. Mr. Dorsey wrote on his social media site Nostr that the death was «heartbreaking.»
MobileCoin CEO Joshua Goldbard said Mr. Li was «an incredible person.»
“Bob was so much more than a technologist. Bob was an artist,” Mr. Goldbard said.
«One of the things that made him really special was his ability to dream big and bring those big crazy dreams into our world.»
SFPD said: " ;This Incident is being investigated by the SFPD Homicide Squad. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.”
