Ford has unveiled the second-generation Transit Courier, a junior commercial heel. Gasoline and diesel versions will go on sale next summer, while the electric E-Transit Courier will not enter production until the end of next year.
The first generation Ford Transit Courier was made on the basis of the Fiesta hatchback, it has been produced since 2014 in Turkey, but the new Transit Courier will be assembled in the Romanian city of Craiova along with the Puma subcompact crossover, the platform of which was adapted to the “heel”. So far, only cargo versions have been declassified, but there will also be cargo-passenger Tourneo Courier — more compact and affordable than the relatively large and status Ford Tourneo Connect, which, as you know, is a clone of the VW Caddy. The overall length of the second generation Transit Courier is 4.4 m (for the “heel” of the first generation it is 4160 mm).

The change of generations gave the Ford Transit Courier a more spacious cargo compartment: the useful length has grown from 1621 to 1803 mm, and if you use the hatch in the lower right part of the partition between the cargo compartment and the passenger compartment and fold the passenger seat, then in the “heel” you can carry an overall load up to 2661 mm. The width between the rear wheel arches has increased from 1012 to 1220 mm (two euro pallets fit), the maximum useful volume of the cargo compartment has increased from 2.3 to 2.9 cubic meters.
The payload capacity of the electric version is 700 kg, the «hydrocarbon» version can carry up to 845 kg. The permissible weight of the towed trailer for an electric vehicle is 750 kg, for a petrol «heel» — 1000 kg, for a diesel one — 1100 kg.

The gasoline Transit Courier is equipped with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost turbo engine with a capacity of 100 or 125 hp, the default gearbox is a 6-speed “mechanics”, for the 125-horsepower version, a 7-speed “automatic” will be offered as an option type DCT (with two clutches). The 1.5-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel (100 hp) will only be on the “mechanics”. The drive wheels are front, including the electric E-Transit Courier.

The 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor in the electric version is located in the front, but nevertheless there is room under the hood for an additional 44-liter boot to put. e.g. charging cable. The maximum charging power is low, only 100 kW. The maximum speed of an electric vehicle is limited to 145 km/h. Battery capacity and range per charge have not yet been disclosed.

The interior of the «hydrocarbon» versions of the Transit Courier looks budget, but the instrument panel is still only virtual. The electric E-Transit Courier has a more intricately shaped front panel, a large 12-inch multimedia screen, a “square” steering wheel instead of a round one, and a wireless charging shelf for a smartphone in the place where the gas and diesel “brothers” have a gear lever. Advanced electronic driver assistance is available for all versions.
Pricing for the new Ford Transit Courier has yet to be announced.
