Tesla employees shared videos of naked customers and were able to look inside Elon Musk's own garage using cameras installed in the company's cars.
Former employees said they watched footage showing a naked man approaching his car, a car hitting a child at high speed and surveillance of «sexual health items» stored in separate rooms.
The video was filmed on cameras built into Tesla vehicles to help with driving, despite the electric vehicle company claiming on its website that they are «designed from the ground up to protect your privacy.»
< p>Video footage of intimate moments and crashes spread «like wildfire» at Tesla's San Mateo, California office via private chat rooms between 2019 and 2020, former employees told Reuters.
Tesla says in its online «Customer Privacy Notice» that its «camera footage remains anonymous and is not linked to you or your vehicle.»
But seven former employees told Reuters that the computer program that they used at work could reveal the location of the recording, which could lead to the Tesla owner's house being exposed.
«We could look inside people's garages and their private property,» said another former employee.

Another employee said he saw «scandalous things,» including «intimacy scenes» and «some sexual health items.»
The employee's exploits even led to the fact that he looked inside the own house of the head of Tesla Elon Musk.
About three years ago, a group of people stumbled upon and shared a video of a unique submersible parked in a garage.
It was a white Lotus Esprit submarine, nicknamed «Wet Nellie». was used in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977.
It was purchased by Mr Musk for approximately $968,000 (£777,000) at auction in 2013.< /p>
It's not clear if Mr. Musk knows the footage exists or has been shared. Mr Musk did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
One video of the collision in 2021 shows Tesla moving at high speed in a residential area before hitting a child riding a bicycle, one of the former employees said. . The child and the bike flew in different directions through the air.
Other simpler clips, including funny road signs or images of dogs, were uploaded into Photoshop to be turned into memes with captions mocking them.
'Privacy violation'
«If you see something cool that gets a reaction, you'll post it, right, and then at halftime, people will come up to you and say, 'Oh, I saw what you posted. It was funny,” said the former photo editor.
“People who have been promoted to management positions have shared a lot of these funny things and have been known for being funny.”
Tesla occasionally stopped inappropriate image sharing on Mattermost's public channels.
“Honestly, this was a breach of privacy. And I always joked that I would never buy a Tesla after seeing how they treat some of these people,” said one of the former employees.
In China, some government complexes and residential areas banned Tesla because concerns about their camera.
Mr Musk responded in a virtual speech at a Chinese forum in 2021 that the company would «shut down» if Tesla vehicles were used for «espionage in China or elsewhere» .
