On April 6, the opening of the first dealer center in Russia for the Chinese car brand BAIC — BAIC MAJOR — took place. Three new models were presented to the guests of the event – the U5 Plus sedan, the X35 crossover and the BJ 40 SUV. Chinese car industry among Russian motorists.
According to BAIC representatives, even if European, American, Japanese and Korean brands return to the Russian market, Chinese brands have quite broad prospects for further development in the Russian Federation. This thesis is also confirmed in the MAJOR automotive holding — according to the forecasts of the company's analysts, the share of Chinese brands in the domestic car market will continue to grow and will be able to reach 40% in the near future.
BAIC is one of the largest state-owned automotive groups in China. In 2022, the company's annual production and sales amounted to 1.45 million vehicles, the company's operating income grew by 4.7% last year and reached 450.7 billion yuan. The brand's product line includes sedans, SUVs, crossovers, commercial vehicles, etc. In addition to gasoline vehicles, BAIC is also the first company in China to obtain the right to produce electric vehicles, BAIC has established a joint venture vehicle manufacturing with Magna, one of the world's largest auto parts manufacturers, mainly to produce high-end electric models. According to MAJOR estimates, sales of electric vehicles in Russia currently amount to 1% of the total number of purchased cars, but in the near future the share of electric cars in the Russian fleet will tend to 2-3%.
At the first stage, sales of the BAIC U5 PLUS sedan and X35 crossover will start in Russia, in the future they will become available to customers two more crossover models: X55 and X7, two SUV models: BJ40 Plus and BJ60, as well as electric vehicles. The total planned production volume by the end of the year will be about 30 thousand cars, in total, seven BAIC models will be presented in Russia this year.

Production is carried out in industrial assembly mode on the basis of a welded and painted body with partial localization of first-level components. Starting from 2024, it is planned to set up full-cycle production with welding and painting of bodies, followed by the localization of auto components.
