Another SUV from the French brand may be presented this year. Most likely, the model will only be available with electrified installations — at least in Europe.
In the current global range of Renault, there is already a coupe-shaped crossover — Arkana (the «world» SUV is different from the Russian deceased Arcana). Nevertheless, the brand decided to replenish its range with another SUV with a similar body, only the upcoming SUV will be more prestigious and more expensive. The photographs of the disguised coupe were shared with Kolesa.ru by the Spanish edition of Motor.es.
According to preliminary data, the new cross will become a kind of Renault Austral. By the way, even before the premiere of Austral, it was rumored that it would be a separate family: they say that a three-row version and just a coupe version will join the standard five-seater SUV. An elongated SUV really appeared, but under a different name — Espace (the minivan of the same name is about to be retired). As for the cross-coupe, the Spaniards still call it Austral Coupe, but other foreign media believe that the Avantime name will be revived for this “five-door” (the so-called van with an unusual design, which was produced in 2001-2003).
Recall that Austral/Espace is based on the CMF-C/D platform (the global Arkana is built on the younger “cart” CMF-B, and the Russian cross is based on the B0 variety). Dimensions are still unknown. The length of the five-seater Austral is 4510 mm, the wheelbase is 2667 mm; the performance of the three-row Espace is 4722 and 2738 mm, respectively. Well, for comparison, the dimensions of the European Renault Arkana: 4568 and 2720 mm.

In terms of design, the “regular” Austral and Espace are not much different from each other, but the coupe-like crossover is expected to have its own “face” – with the original grille and optics. Inside, such an SUV, most likely, will repeat the brothers, that is, in the cabin they will install visually combined virtual tidy and a vertical touchscreen of the multimedia system.

The Spaniards write that the “coupe” can be offered in the form of an all-wheel drive rechargeable hybrid PHEV with a total power of approximately 280 hp. The original Renault Austral, which in Europe is available exclusively with electrified installations, does not have such a powerful version today. The “mild hybrid” five-seater SUV is equipped with a 1.2 turbo engine and a 48-volt Mild Hybrid Advanced starter-generator or a 1.3 turbo four and a 12-volt Mild Hybrid starter-generator. In the first case, the turbo engine produces 130 hp, this Austral is equipped exclusively with a manual gearbox. The 1.3T engine has two power options: with “mechanics” — 140 hp, with an X-Tronic variator — 160 hp. The top short crossover is presented in the form of a full-fledged E-Tech hybrid with a 1.2 turbo engine and a 1.7 kWh battery operating at 400 volts; total return — 200 hp Renault Austral comes with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The premiere of the new Renault cross-coupe is expected this fall, but the SUV will probably go on sale only at the beginning of 2024.
