Elon Musk set up a new artificial intelligence company called X.AI Corp., according to a Nevada filing.
In a paper filed last month and released on Friday, The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Musk is listed as the sole director of the company, and Jared Birchall, director of Mr. Musk's family office, is listed as its secretary.
X.AI has authorized the sale of 100 million shares of a privately owned company.
Just last month, Musk warned that “out of control” AI development could “pose serious risks to society and humanity.” .
On Friday, the Financial Times reported that Musk has nevertheless begun to assemble a team of researchers and engineers to work on his AI project.
The newspaper reported that Musk is also in talks with investors Tesla and SpaceX to help fund the project.
The Tesla CEO has been linked to discussions about setting up a new research lab with those in the area, including Igor Babushkin, a former DeepMind Alphabet employee, according to tech website The Information.
Mr. Musk helped launch OpenAI in 2015 and served as co-chair along with Sam Altman, who is currently the CEO of OpenAI.
At the time, OpenAI's goal was to «develop digital intelligence in a way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, beyond the need to generate financial returns.» Mr. Musk left the board of directors of OpenAI in 2018 and has since been critical of the organization, which created a commercial division in 2019.
This comes after Mr. Musk recently changed the official name of Twitter to X Corp. the billionaire describes his efforts to create an «app for everything».
Mr. Musk did not respond to The Wall Street Journal's request for comment on X.AI.
