Kaliningrad Avtotor continues to develop Chinese technology at an accelerated pace: just ten days after the announcement of the start of work with BAIC, the plant announced a long-term cooperation with Shineray Group and its Italian brand SWM. The production of three SWM crossovers — G01, G01F and G05 Pro has already begun.
Recall that in January Avtotor launched the first model under the Chinese brand Kaiyi, a joint project with BAIC began with the launch of two models , but under the SWM brand, the Kaliningrad plant is ready to immediately offer three new products — their sales will begin in late April or early May.

The original SWM company comes from Italy and was engaged in the production of motorcycles from 1971 to 1984. In 2014, the Chinese Shineray Group bought the SWM brand and in 2016, together with Brilliance, turned it into the automotive company SWM Motors. Motorcycles under the SWM brand are also produced today, and in Italy itself, but the cars are produced by a factory in Chongqing, China. SWM's modern car range consists of low-cost crossovers and crossovers, the design of which, according to the company, is being developed in Italy. So far, SWM is a small player in the Chinese market, with sales not exceeding 100,000 vehicles. Time will tell how things will go in Russia.
SWM G05 Pro
There are far fewer details about the cooperation between Avtotor and SWM than it was in the case of BAIC: the SWM car wing does not yet have a Russian website, the characteristics and prices of the models put into production have not been announced, so below are the figures relevant for China. The joint project of Avtotor and SWM is designed for the period until 2032, during this period several models will be put into production, including, as TASS clarifies, an electric car and a minivan. The depth of localization will gradually increase: for example, by the end of 2024, Avtotor wants to master the painting of SWM car bodies. Cooperation also implies the development of a completely new model, taking into account the specifics of the Russian market.

Now let's talk about the already launched models. SWM G01 debuted in its homeland in 2018 and has already been completely replaced by the sports version of G01F, and we will have both versions, served as two different models.

SWM G01 is a medium-sized (by Russian standards) 5-seater crossover: overall length — 4610 mm, width — 1855 mm, height — 1740 mm, wheelbase — 2750 mm. Drive — only the front. The power unit is a petrol 1.5-liter “turbo-four” (156 hp, 212 Nm) paired with a 7-speed “automatic” type DCT (with two clutches).
SWM G01F 1/3 SWM G01F 2/3 SWM G01F 3/3The sports SWM G01F, which was released in 2019, has a much more aggressive design (the modified plumage increased the overall length to 4670 mm), but is equipped with the same engine as the “just” G01, and in the basic version it is paired with a 6-speed «Mechanics». The front suspension for crossovers of the G01 family is McPherson type, and the rear suspension, depending on the modification, is semi-independent with a transverse torsion beam or independent multi-link.

SWM G05 Pro entered the Chinese market in 2019 and is a family alternative to the G01/G01F crossovers with a more spacious interior, there are 5- and 7-seater versions. Overall length SWM G05 Pro — 4750 mm, width — 1860 mm, height — 1780 mm, wheelbase — 2750 mm. Drive — only front, rear suspension — only semi-independent. There are two engines to choose from: a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol (143 hp, 190 Nm) comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 1.5-liter turbo engine (156 hp, 220 Nm) — paired with a 7-speed «automatic» type DCT.
